STRONGMAN WORKOUTS ARE ALL YOU NEED

Big men, tough workouts. Big chance you think of this when you hear the word 'Strongman'. Just like throwing over car or tractor tires, pulling (freight) trucks or moving concrete blocks. But strongman is more than that, because not everyone has a truck in front of the door to pull forward. Despite that, you can also follow a strongman training with the right equipment. It is guaranteed to bring out a (brute) power in you. With strongman training (or competitions) you move - usually heavy and clumsy - objects, which means that your condition and strength are put to the test. Are you also a CrossFit enthusiast? Well, then some of the materials used within strongman will sound familiar to you. More and more workouts are coming along that are a combination of strongman and CrossFit. And that is not without reason. To get started with strongman workouts, you already need a strong basis. Otherwise you will not be able to perform the heavy duty exercises.

What can you expect when training strongman?
Your body is put to work. A good strongman training requires a lot of your muscles and endurance. That's why you burn a lot of calories even after the training is over. For example, the focus in weightlifting is mainly on building muscle mass, while this is not the case with strongman. Because you still burn a lot of calories - even after training - through all the heavy lifting, you mainly work on - brute - strength in this sport. Strongman training literally makes you stronger. And for that reason, strongman workouts are closer to CrossFit than to weightlifting. Put the barbell and dumbbells aside for a while and grab the heavy guns. From a fat bar, to a Yoke or sandbag.

Which strongman exercises are there?

Farmer walks

With this workout you work on functional strength. Because you can still pump endlessly in the gym to create more muscle mass, without having functional strength you won't get anywhere. From lifting crates of groceries from the car to lifting moving boxes. These are examples of daily actions for which you need functional strength. And let the Farmer's Walk be the founder of functional strength. Simple and effective at the same time. You take the Farmers walk handles in both hands and you cover a distance - while walking - in as little time as possible. By taking small steps, you keep your balance. An indispensable exercise for training your upper back and a stronger grip.

Fat bar deadlift

The well-known deadlift, as you know from CrossFit, but with the Fat bar. The RXDGear Fat barbell has an extra wide handle (diameter). This means that it's  - almost - impossible to get your hands around it. Something that works with an Olympic barbell. It makes the deadlift a lot more challenging because you build up a strong grip with it. You can also do the Fat bar press and squat. Tip: ignore your straps when you get started with the Axle Bar. Using straps reduces the effect and you don't want that. Save your straps for the Olympic barbell.

Sandbag carry

There is a good chance that you have already performed this workout. A favorite part of your workouts or a no-go? This part is indispensable within strongman training. You put your whole body to work. Pick up the bag, make sure it doesn't fall and walk the distance you set. Pick, walk, drop. Easy, right?

Yoke carry

Last but not least, because it is one of the most famous strongman workouts. You can easily perform the above exercises at home. But a Yoke carry is a different story for most of us. A killer workout for the gym, by the way. The Yoke carry requires a lot of strength from your core. But stability and coordination are also important points to be able to cover meters with the Yoke on your neck.

Do you want to complete your strongman workout? Order a (climbing) rope or a weight vest.
